 October: Warmth and Creativity

Guided by Penny Makris’ Intuitive Calendar

This month, we’re inspired by the marigold flower the symbol of warmth, creativity, and bright resilience.  Doesn’t that sound cozy?  

These qualities already live inside you. And they’re not passive.  They’re active. You can choose to bring them forward at anytime.

Here’s a simple daily practice to open the door:

🕯️ In the morning, light a candle or gently place your hands over your heart.

Take a few breaths and ask:

“Where may I bring more warmth and creativity today?”

Write down what arises. A feeling, a memory, an idea. Let it be simple.  Don’t think about it simply write what comes to you first.


🎨 Feeling stuck during the day? Try this energy-shifting ritual:

  • Shake out your hands for 30 seconds
  • Smile (your nervous system will thank you!)
  • Say aloud: “I’m open to a new way.”  or  “I am willing to see a creative new way.”

💡Energy creates emotion, and emotion creates momentum.

You don’t have to push your way through. You can shift into flow.  As Judi says often, “Going with the flow.”


📓 In the evening, reflect for a moment.

Write down one way you were creative today.

That might be:

  • Solving a problem with more grace
  • Softening into self-kindness
  • Writing a loving message to you or someone
  • Making a beautiful, healthy lunch
  • Letting your intuition lead for 5 minutes

Creativity is how you move through the world.

Seasonal Shifts Energy Support: 
The Lung Energy System and Fall
The Liver Energy System and Spring


In the Northern Hemisphere, we have entered autumn, a sacred time in Spring Forest Qigong when the Lung Energy System comes into focus. All five energy systems support us throughout the year, but now the lungs step forward and gently encourage us to release what no longer serves us

As the daylight shortens, give yourself permission to slow down. Light a candle, make yourself cozy, and settle in with your journal or meditation space. This is not a time for judgment. It is a time to reflect with kindness and presence, listening inward and honoring all that you have been carrying.

A balanced lung system supports:

  • Lungs of course
  • Skin
  • Sinuses and nose
  • Teeth and throat
  • Large intestine

The lungs support emotional well-being, especially the energy of grief and letting go.   To balance grief we bring in contentment.   
When your lung energy is strong and clear, you feel lighter, calmer, and more connected.

Two Lung-Loving Teas

Ginger-Lemon Tea

  • Grate or dice fresh ginger
  • Place in a cup and pour hot water over
  • Add lemon juice if desired
  • Sip once a day or every other day to warm and open the lungs

Pear + Goji Berry Tea

  • Roughly chop 3 pears
  • Add to 5 cups of water with a handful of goji berries
  • Bring to a boil and simmer for 30 minutes
  • Drink warm to support the lungs and digestion

Even a few sips, taken with presence, can send a loving message to your body:

“I am supported. I am healed. I am whole.”

🌱 For Our Southern Hemisphere Family

As you step into spring, the Liver Energy System begins its beautiful work. While all five energy systems support you year-round, this season is when the liver takes center stage. It governs your:

  • Liver
  • Eyes
  • Gallbladder
  • Tendons and ligaments
  • Fingernails

This energy system is deeply connected with renewal, movement, and growth. Spring is a time of rebirth, and your body knows it. Let it guide you.

To support your Liver Energy:

  • Add more fresh greens and herbs to your meals
  • Source locally when possible or grow your own
  • Spend time outside, the longer daylight hours are your invitation
  • Hug a tree, go barefoot in the grass, have a picnic
  • Move your body with joy to awaken the tendons and flow

The liver helps detoxify anger. Not good or bad but it can be too much sometimes over burdening the liver.  Therefore, we balance it with happiness.

Feel the earth waking up and allow yourself to rise with it. This season can be a powerful reset for your entire being. Let it be a fresh start, rooted in vitality, happiness, and connection.

Action Step: Awaken Spring Energy Within You

Each morning this week, try this simple ritual:

  1. Step outside, or open a window to let fresh air in or fresh Qi.
  2. Place both hands over your liver (right side, under your ribs).   Massage in a circular motion, starting from the left side, moving to the right, then continuing upward and downward to complete the circle.  Do this 9 times or more if you like.   
  3. Take three slow, deep breaths.
  4. Smile and say aloud or silently:“I welcome renewal. I open to happiness.”
  5. Then gently stretch your arms overhead like tree branches reaching toward the sun.

This five-minute practice helps circulate liver Qi and sets the tone for a vibrant day.

Let this be your season of joy, movement, and playful energy. You’re not just witnessing spring you are part of it.
